Mumbai, 28th February 2019: 8th March, celebrated as International Women’s Day is around the corner, and everyone is gearing up to celebrate the power of women. On this grand occasion, Mukta A2 Cinemas is all set to celebrate Women’s week at its iconic property New Excelsior with the screening of special women-centric films all week long, from 1st March to 6th March, as a lead-up to International Women’s Day. The iconic theater located in Fort, Mumbai, has been the center-ground for all things entertainment in the city and with the revolutionary changes in the Indian cinema industry, where female producers, directors, cinematographers, etc. are gaining importance, the cinema chain aims to pay homage to some of the best female-driven and women-centric films of Indian cinema.

The film-fest week will kick-start with 2018’s blockbuster women-centric film Raazi, an Alia Bhatt starrer film where she plays an undercover RAW agent who’s married into a Pakistani family to obtain crucial information about the enemy. Followed by English Vinglish, where Sridevi plays a housewife and a caterer who is mocked for her lack of knowledge and understanding of the English language, and her attempt to learn the language and rediscover herself in the process.

On Sunday patrons can enjoy the experience of Chak De! India on the silver-screen once again, one of India’s iconic films, it shows the Indian Women’s Hockey team winning the world cup in Australia under the coaching of Kabir Khan (played by King Khan), ex-captain of the Indian Male Hockey team. Next movie on the list is Pink, starring TapseePammu, Kirti Kulhari and the Shahenshah of bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan; it is a story of 3 young women who fight against molestation with a politician’s nephew and the troubles they face in the process. Lipstick under my Burkha is satirical film which revolves around the lives of 4 women (Ratna Pathak, Konkona Sen Sharma, AahanaKumra and PlabitaBorthakur) in lead roles who are trying to break out of social norms and search for a little freedom for themselves. It is one of the most critically acclaimed films of recent times. With the week concluding on a thought-provoking note with the screening of NamdevBhau, an adventure-comedy directored by critically acclaimed female director Dar Gai of Ukrainian origin, is the story of an unlikely friendship between an old-man and a young boy while the former is on his search for peace in the ‘Silent Valley’.
