The foundation stone of Shahjahanabad was laid in 1639 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Dharampura emerged as a neighborhood housing the nobility of the city. This walk will take us through some of the most well preserved courtyard houses (havelis) of this city and also explore ornate Jain temples, fabulous gateways, busy bazaars and perfumeries. It will start at the Jama Masjid and we will touch upon the planning principles of the city and how Shah Jahan was deeply invested in its design, his vision as one of the greatest patrons of architecture in Indian history and how the residential spaces of the elite captured the essence of Mughal architecture.
