One of the most loved
festivals of India has finally arrived – Navratri! It is celebrated differently
in all parts of India, but throughout the country it is considered as the
festival of joy, colour, knowledge and of course DANCE! Each Indian Classical
dance has a distinct character and embodies the culture and traditions of our country
and is appreciated and enjoyed all over the world too. Exponents of Indian
classical dance believe that it has the capability to improve the overall
development of mind and body which culminates in a healthy and disciplined
lifestyle.
Keeping this in mind, the Ladies’
Wing of IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry is celebrating Navratri this year
by organizing an event “Dances of India”. The event will showcase lecture
demonstrations on Indian classical dances by eminent gurus of three major dance
forms – Odissi, Bharatanatyam and Kathak.
The dance maestros Ms. Jhelum Paranjape, Ms. Sharada & Ms.
Nandini Ganesan and Ms. Gargi Shah will be talking about and performing Odissi, Bharatnatyam and Kathak dances respectively. It will be
beautiful visual extravaganza and the audience will learn to appreciate the
nuances of each dance form, their distinctive characteristics and the
similarities too!
Ms. Mohana Nair, the
President of IMC’ Ladies Wing, who is also a Bharatnatyam and Odissi trained
classical dancer said, “Dance is a
passion for me and I really enjoy Odissi as a hobby even now! We are privileged to have such renowned
exponents of dance grace our event for Navratri to teach participants the
basics of classical dancing. We are really looking forward to a splendid visual
and sensual treat.”
