2015 is the UN's International Year of Light! In day to day life, we experience light gently bathing all things around us and helping us see the universe. At extremely high intensities, however, light interacts dramatically with ordinary matter.Ultra-high intensity lasers can create conditions similar to those inside stars! About the speaker: G. Ravindra Kumar is a Senior Professor at TIFR who uses high intensity laser pulses from a 100 terawatt laser to create extreme conditions in matter. He has interdisciplinary interests lie in lasers, optics and plasma physics.
