Leh- Ladakh have gradually become the places where adventure sport enthusiasts and nature lovers from all parts of the world gather to witness the heavenly beauty, juxtaposed with the hell like challenges posed by the natural terrain of the area. One comes here to challenge the physical limits of the body and gets mesmerized by the simplicity of the people and complexity of the valley. Leh Ladakh are the places for you if you want to leave the comfort of the cosy drawing room behind and looking for some real adventure- like river rafting, biking and a relatively beginner level trek with the soothing Buddhist chants all around in the air.
The trek we have chosen here takes you through the beautiful meadow valley and the villages otherwise not approachable by road, the smiling facing the residents will surely confuse you but soon you will realize what they have is priceless!
Day 0(14th August) : Take an evening bus from Delhi to Manali.
Day 1: Early morning reach Manali freshen up at Mount Ville Manali and then head onward for you journey to Leh.
Day 02: Arrive at Leh
Welcome at the Hotel by the expedition leaders with the traditional Ladakhi silk scarf “Khatak”.
Acclimatizing to the altitude is very important journey before doing any activity so we take rest and venture out to the city market in evening for a casual stroll. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 04: Leh - Pangong Tso
After breakfast, drive from Leh to Manali past Shey and Thiksey – the mound of earthen monastic dwellings, crowned by the Gompa. At Karu, which is a junction, you take a detour and start ascending to cross the Ladakh range over Chang-La (5,475 M / 17950 ft.) At the foot of the pass on the other side we reach Tangse village. The valley is blessed with a beautiful stream flowing through it, originating from the lake, giving a greenish tincture to the otherwise dry landscape around.
Apart from flora this area is rich in fauna too. You can see a lot of Himalayan Marmots around the area. However, the main attraction of this circuit is the grand Pangong Tso, which you would reach by early evening. The mesmerizing beauty and the fantastic view of Tso places it a league above anything you have seen so far.Stay overnight in safari tents by the lake shore.
You may carry cycles and pedal around the lake. You may also visit Chulsul village and Merak Monastery to look at a picturesque view of the lake.
Overnight at Pangong.
DAY 05: PangongTso – Leh (240 kms) 7 hrs drive
Let the photographer in you delve into the richness that nature has to offer. Enjoy the morning at the Lake and after breakfast drive back to Leh. On the way back, visit the Thikshey and Hemis Monasteries. Later you may also indulge in a little photo shoot if you get a chance to witness the blessed sunset. Check into the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 06: Explore Moonscape
Lamayuru is Ladakh’s oldest monastery and is set in a surreal surrounding called the Moonland, because of its topography. We all were special invitees to the Morning Prayer in the monastery and it was an incredibly uplifting spiritual experience. We also take blessings of the local gods for our journey which begins tomorrow. Enroute visit the famous Pathar Saheb Gurudwara, Magnetic Hill, Confluence point and beautiful villages of Ladakh. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
Optional – Cycling down till Lamayuru or Basgo (if you like only downhill biking)
Day 07: Lamayuru – Hinju (5 hrs. Journey)
We start off in the morning and drive upto the small village of Wanla around 5-6 KMs from Hinju from where we proceed on foot.
Today’s trek winds through more quaint Ladakhi villages before arriving at the meadow camp outside the village of Hinju. It’s a beautiful campsite located near the rain fed streams joining into the Zanskar river. Overnight stay at Camps.
Day 08: Hinju – Sumdo Doksa via Kongskil La (6 hrs. Journey)
A gradual ascent will bring you to the Kongskil La ridge from where you will get great views of Stok and Karakoram ranges. The other side pass is scree and a little difficult to negotiate.
A campsite perched at a good height you get a beautiful view of the valley from here. Today we also cross the highest pass of this trek, Kongskil la and if the weather stays by our side we get an exclusive view of the valley. Overnight stay at Camps in Sumdo Doksa.
Day 09: Sumda Doksa – Base of Dung Dung Chan la (5 hrs. Journey)
After a few river crossings and the village of Sumdo Chenmo, the trails starts gradually ascending to the base of Dung Dung Chan La. Look out for edelweiss and other rare flowers of Ladakh along the way. Overnight at Camps.
Day 10: Base of Dung Dung Chan La – Chilling (5 hrs. Journey)
It’s a straight climb from the Dung Dung Chan La pass. The trail then descends gradually to the village of Chilling. Overnight at Camps.
Day 11: Chilling – Nimoo Rafting
In morning head to the rafting point along with all the equipment. Raft will be ready near the Zanskar River and we meet the rafting crew for the most exciting and a thrilling experience of the White Water Rafting. The rafting ends at the Confluence point of the Indus and Zanskar.
After Lunch at the rafting camp head to Kargil. Overnight at Kargil Visit the war memorial.
25th August Day 12: Drive to Srinagar - Early morning start your journey for Srinagar to catch a late evening flight back to Delhi.
