“The Bodhisattwa Trio” is an experimental Jazz Rock outfit based in Kolkata, India. The band comprises of composer/guitar player Bodhisattwa Ghosh, drummer Premjit Dutta and bass player Bijit Bhattacharya. The trio believes in spontaneous creativity and 
improvisational art, drawing from experiences and emotions in life and the ethos surrounding the human society. With influences ranging from jazz, modern jazz, progressive rock, blues and even Indian classical music, they deliver a repertoire of original instrumental tunes, aiming to create a sound and experience that can only be called their very own.


The band had released its debut album “Intersections” in January 2014, after which they have performed in UK, Slovenia, Croatia and France in May 2014 and have followed up their tour of Europe with a tour of Bangladesh in September 2014 and a performance at the Kolkata International Jazz Festival featuring percussion maestro Monojit Datta in November 2014. The band also performed across India, i.e, in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Kolkata in 2015, featuring musicians like Fender brand ambassador Ehsaan Noorani, guitar player Warren Mendonsa and Canadian saxophone players Andrew Kay and Jonathan Kay.

This May 2016, the band is all set to release their second album “Heart of Darkness”. Named after the novel by Joseph Conrad and inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s cult film “Apocalypse Now”, the album is an exploration of pain and suffering of the human soul, technically focusing on expressionism, post modernism and virtuosity. To complete this very personal reflection, the band has collaborated with critically acclaimed photographer Shan Bhattacharya (from Kolkata), who has interpreted the sounds of the album into metaphorical images through his camera.
