Embassy of the Republic of Korea to India and Sports Authority of India (SAI) are in collaboration
to organize ‘All India Inter SAI – Korea Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo
Championship 2017’ on 25th May to 28th
May 2017 at K.D. Jadhav Wrestling Hall, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex,
New Delhi.
His Excellency Hyun Cho, Ambassador
of the Republic of Korea to India said, “This event geared towards enhancing
bilateral relations between India and Korea in sports and culture. I hope it nourishes exchanges under
sportsmanship.
Mr. Kim Kum pyoung, Korean
Cultural Centre India, Director said that, KCCI are pleased to associate with
SAI in an endeavour to promote Taekwondo in India. Although, the cooperation
can be extended in many other sporting and cultural fields.
Shri Hira Ballabh, Executive
Director (Finance & Operations), SAI said that, association of Sports
Authority of India and Embassy of Korea in India will go a long way in
promoting and developing Taekwondo in particular and many other sports general.
He added that, “we have a mutually agreed long term structured format for this
training program.
For making the event success, Embassy of the Republic of Korea to India and SAI has also organized the two days workshop for
Taekwondo Coaches from the different parts of the country by Grand Master Mr.
Wan Yong Lee of Korean Cultural Centre India, at Indira Gandhi Stadium – Sports
Complex, New Delhi.
In workshop the coaches
learnt about the training methods, techniques, recent changes in rules of
conducting of competition and other related aspects concerned for Taekwondo.
They were also shortlisted for refereeing for the ‘All India SAI Korean
Ambassadors cup Taekwondo Championship 2017’.
This year’s competition will have both men and women Taekwondo players from regional
centres of SAI in Kyorugi(fight) and Poomsae(set
sequence) tournament under
the categories of Cadet, Junior and Senior. Players of Korean Cultural Centre India(KCCI) will enter in
Poomsae.
The first Taekwondo championship by
the Indian and Korean governments is
aiming at boosting the popularity of
Taekwondo in India and encouraging Indian
athletes to get international level achievements in upcoming events including
2018 Asian games.
As a renowned Korean martial art,
Taekwondo is played in approximately 200 countries all over the world and has
been an Olympic event since 2000.
SAI and Embassy of the Republic of
Korea will facilitate the participants with participation and merit
certificates, and conduct a two-week
training camp for 1st and 2nd position holders of the
senior category. Twelve selected players among them will compete in ‘Chuncheon
Korea Open International Taekwondo Championship’ as a part of one-month
intensive training camp in Korea.
