Mehrauli encompasses much of the oldest identifiable city of Delhi. It was from Lal Kot that the Tomars, Chauhans and Mamluks ruled over Delhi. This walk will throw light on the historical significance of Mehrauli from the establishment of the first Islamic dynasty on Indian soil to the first dargah in Delhi, that of Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki, a hub of syncretism, frequented by Hindus and Muslims alike during the Urs. We will also explore the baolis of Mehrauli, the role of water reservoirs in myth and history and the celebration of monsoon in the Mughal 'place of pleasure’.
This guided tour is for free.
