About us

Welcome to a two day workshop based on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) of Marshall Rosenberg.
Here we will look at ways of creating a world where we can express honestly while holding care for other people, in a language devoid of any blame or shame!
In this world when we hear any statement that looks like blame we try to see the deeper meaning or the needs of the person who is saying it and hear it without taking that we have done any thing 'wrong'. This will allow us to be closer to our own inner peace even in the times of disconnect and leave us more capable of adressing the needs of the other person. Similarly when we want to express our discomfort or hurt to some one, which is triggered by some of their actions, we say it in terms of observations instead of interpretations, express our feelings, unmet needs and make clear specific requests where we are even ready to hear a 'No'.
NVC gives a clear road map to such a world where we connect to the humanness of each person no matter what they are saying or doing thereby it allows us to express our honesty while holding care for the other people.

Some Possible Learnings from the workshop:
1. Increases your ability to have inner peace even in difficult situations of conflict.
2. To hear and connect with people who speak with anger
3. To be able to express yourself clearly in difficult situations
4. To get out of the stories of victimhood and enemy images of others and be self connected and empowered.

The title of the workshop is inspired by works of Francois Beausoleil on NVC.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR SHAMMI NANDA:
Shammi Nanda is from Jaipur and is deeply connected to the friends and community here. He has been a documentary film-maker since 1994 who studied at the Film and Institute Of India, Pune. He gradually moved to self-healing and sustainable food practices in the last one decade and even volunteered to run an Organic Kitchen for the Student of FTII for two years in Pune.
Now, for the past five years, has been travelling extensively in India and abroad, bringing Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to individuals and communities. In his extensive work with alternative communities spanning more than a decade, he came across a lot of pain caused by disconnects in such communities, causing people to lose heart and leave. He believes that disconnects happen not because people are bad or mean, but because we lack ways of communicating which allow for listening deeply to others’ needs and expressing our own in an honest and caring manner. Inspired by this, and also pain caused by failed communication in his own personal life, he began to explore NVC and other modalities like Sociocracy and Restorative Circles and worked to bring these healing energies to communities. He is also inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and saints like Kabir, and draws connections between NVC and these world-views. An inspired and creative teacher, he brings a lot of energy into his teaching and brings NVC alive through compassion, humor and plain dedication.
