Have you ever wondered how your address is easy to spot on maps? We have moved from hand drawn maps, to physical representations, to marking places in the geography class, to skimming through the atlas, and now to digital maps on our phones.
What's in store for you?
Join us as we use satellite data, and map places that are 'missing' from virtual maps.
How does this help the World?
Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Mapathon is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable people.
What do you take back from the MAPATHON?
Learn how digital maps are made. Have fun working in a team and play some map-games with us. And, of course go back with the satisfaction of spending a Productive Weekend by helping put the vulnerable population on the map.
