Korean Cultural Centre India is organizing ‘In the presence of others’ exhibition which brings artist collectives and groups from Seoul – South Korea, Guwhati - India, Tokyo - Japan, Ho Chi Minh - Vietnam City to host a conversation around collective practices today. The exhibition preview is on 9^th March 2017 from 6.30 PM onwards.

The exhibition will be on display from 10^th March to 13^th April 2017 at 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM in Korean Cultural Centre India, Exhibition Gallery, New Delhi.

Exhibition is premised on the idea that collective practices of contemporary art engage with the world differently, because they generate potentials beyond the limitations of individual authorship.

The performative practices of Okin Collective from Seoul, the alternative philosophies of Desire Machine Collective from Guwahati, the historically anchored and conceptually dynamic work by The Propeller Group from Ho Chi Minh City and the activist engagements of Chim↑Pom from Tokyo will orchestrate this exhibition into a multi-sensory experience.

About the Curator

Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi is a writer, curator and researcher currently based in New Delhi. He is Exhibitions Coordinator at Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi. He is also a Doctoral Candidate at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

About the Artists

Okin Collective group from Seoul, initially began as a performance project in a suburban apartment of Seoul brought out common interests among Joungmin Yi, Hwayong Kim and Shi Jun who since 2009 has been working as a group of artists.

Desire Machine Collective group from Guwahati, Sonal Jain and Mriganka Madhukaillya seeks to disrupt the neurotic symptoms that arise from constricting capitalist structures with healthier, schizophrenic cultural flows of desire and information.

The Propeller Group Based between Ho Chi Minh City and Los Angeles was established in 2006 as a cross-disciplinary structure for creating ambitious art projects. Phunam, Matt Lucero, and Tuan Andrew Nguyen created the collective to harness the synergetic spirit encountered in large-scale production efforts.

Chim↑Pom group from Tokyo was formed in 2005 with Ushiro Ryuta, Yasutaka Ellie, Okada Masataka, Inaoka Motomu, Mizuno Toshinori Yuki Maeda. Ever since its inception Chim↑Pom has continuously released works that fully intervene in contemporary society with activist messages.
