What is Kokdu
“kokdu” signifies an extraordinary or supernatural being. These
are similar to the angels in the biblical traditions of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam, a spiritual body connecting us to the
world beyond. Kokdu are considered as companions to the deceased, who is
traveling from this world to the other world.
The sangyeo kokdu probably is the most
outstanding in representing the kokdu world because of its character: it
has symbolic value of beauty, and diversity. It is primary wooden carved images
existing from the ancient past down to the modern present. Its shapes are
in the form of human beings, animals and plants, which were used to decorate
the mortuary hearse (sangyeo).
You can experience all together
