Workshop will include functional training, locomotion workouts, basic body movements and body postures of Kalaripayattu, including bhaav (expression).
Why you should do it?
Increases strength, energy, enhances flexibility, levels of endurance, relieves stress, boosts stamina and the functioning of the immune system; bestows greater power of concentration, self-control and enhances posture and muscle tone; unbelievable speed in physical movements, leaps and jumps and also helps the student achieve perfect neuro-muscular co-ordination.
What is in it for Performing artists?
While Kalari, like any other martial art, engages in intensive body training, which requires a strong determined mind, once the initial stage of learning the basics is achieved, focus moves towards ‘expression’. It’s one of the only martial arts that focuses on ‘bhaav’ or ‘expression’ of the body through the movements. It synchronises the physical energy and the mental energy, ultimately producing a body that is spontaneous, yet full of aesthetic expression. All of which makes Kalarippayattu the perfect training medium for a performer.
Who you will train with?
Vipin Lagarto Kazhipurath is an accomplished and committed martial artist with 12 years of rich experience with the vision to establish Kalaripayattu, traditional art form of Kerala as a lifestyle.
His primary training began at the tender age of 10, in the very land of Kalari, Kerela. After training there diligently for many years, he moved to Mumbai, to share his immense knowledge of this art form, with us, who rarely get to practice Kalari, in its absolute 'PURE' and 'unadulterated' form.
In all his years propagating Kalari, (More than 7 years), aside from teaching martial arts enthusiasts, he has trained extensively with DANCERS and THEATRE ARTISTS, in some of the most reputed Dance schools not just in Mumbai but across India.
