Goyokai is a group of celebrated Japanese traditional
dancers. The group consists of five dancers from
different schools and family lineages of the Japanese
traditional dance, nihon buyou, who are taking
a lead in furthering Japanese traditional dance.
Representing the quintessence of classical Japanese
dance, their performances vary, from the pieces
derived from kabuki, their original work and the
elegant zashikimai, the dance traditionally intended
to be performed only in tatami rooms.
The artists have worked together to create new
performance pieces since 2016.
The pieces being perfomed are:
‘Sambaso’ (a rhythmical dance piece representing a prayer
for a good harvest)
‘Hagoromo’ (a dramatic dancepiece about the relationship between a fisherman and a heavenly maiden) and
‘Ramayana’
Entry is free with no prior registration or RSVP required.
