Greetings,
Formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College, off the coast of the Arabian Sea is present one of India’s most popular, well ranked engineering college, National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK). In short, NITK was founded in 1960, houses around 6000 students and offers UG and PG courses in various fields of study.
NITK proudly hosts its annual technical fest, Engineer, which draws talented and technically sound participants from all over the country. Held from 24th to 27th of October this year, Engineer consolidates an interesting plethora of events that cover engineering disciplines such as Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, and Metallurgy etc. Not only does Engineer hold competitions that test the skills of the brightest in that nation, but also consists of workshops, lectures, gaming and other events.
Coming to the division of events, it is based on the various branches of engineering.
· Tronix Events: Simplicity, Waltz, Trade off, Symphony, Trailblazer, Automata and Fox Hunt are the events that cover the field of electronics and communication and involve contests and problem statements on image and audio processing, robotics, transmitters and other applications of electronics. The winners of Trailblazer, Automata and Waltz get the golden opportunity of working as an intern at Adormi Technology Bangalore.
· Mechanical events: Proteus, Velocity, Perfect Machine, Robo Wars and Wright Flight comprise of the events under the branch of mechanical engineering. Robotics, building RC cars, structural design, gliders, etc. are few of the topics touched upon in this division.
· Computer Events: Inscription, Rectify,Code Kombat, Marathon, Virtual Bounty and ECTF are the events under the branch of Computer Science and engineering. These contests and problem statements test your coding skills, understanding of algorithms and their analysis, rectification of bugged code and many more concept related to this field.
· Civil events: Fantasticity, Colossus, Architect, Nirvana and Mind Bend come under Civil Events. These events cover concepts ranging from structural design to social innovation, testing your fundamentals in the branch of civil engineering.
· Chemical Events: Industry Defined Problems, the Portal and Chemical Breakdown are the events that test your knowledge of chemistry, that offer you workshops on the latest simulation softwares that is essential for every chemical engineer and allows you to propose solutions to practical problems faced by chemical industries.
· Mining Events: Mining Innovation, Adverse Mining Problem, Mine Quest, Hangman and Blast Mine Ventilation and Mine Rush are the events that test you on the various mining techniques both conventional and unconventional, handling survey instruments and innovative solutions to the various problems that industries are facing in the day.
· Astro events: Beyond earth, Star wars, Exhibits, Astro Talks are a part of Astro events that are thrilling for Astronomy enthusiasts that test your knowledge in this field and has talks regarding it as well.
· Socially Conscious Engineering: Sky Lantern, Green Product Design, Sparsh and Last word are the events that allow you to use your knowledge and initiative to contribute towards better and efficient technology and product design.
· MBA events and Biz Events: Mind Bend, Human resource, Markenza, Finance, Product Design Challenge, Campus Social Initiative, Case study challenge and Data Analytics are the events under MBA and Biz events. These events test your knowledge on business, analytics, markets and marketing, salesmanship and other related concepts. Case Study Challenge promises a cash prize of ₹15,000.
· Gaming events: FIFA, AOE3, Counter Strike, DOTA and NFS come under this division. As no formal introduction is required regarding this committee, all gaming enthusiasts flock to these events due to the excitement and level of competition they face during the fest.
· Blueprint: This events provides researchers and research enthusiast a forum to present papers on various disciplines.
Apart from the various committees hosting their contests, we have 3 other committees that normally draw a lot of crowd during ENGINEER.
· Technites: The official thriller of ENGINEER, Technites draws maximum attention with its on display tech extravaganzas. Psych Room, Dance Dance revolution, Arcade Room, Blitzkrieg and Megapixel allow you to witness technical finesse in a way never seen before!
Main Show: This year we have the pleasure of presenting to you a unique 3D video projection and Pyro Show. You can have a look at the teaser of the show in the link provided below -

· Workshops: Hacking, Augmented Reality, 3D Photography, RC Aircraft, Robotics, Android workshop and Bridge design are the diversified topics that will be taught by professionals and masters in the above respective fields, leaving you with a very informative insight into each one of these applications of technology.
· Techspeak: This committee takes pride in inviting people who are legends in their field and offer their experience and knowledge in abundance to the crowd that listens to them. This year we are having the honored presence of 3 eminent speakers with us-
1. Banibrata Mukopadhyay - Associate Professor of Astrophysics at IISC, Bangalore. He calculated the mass limit to which white dwarf stars can reach, before they collapse into neutron stars or black holes.
2. Max Little - Wellcome Trust/MIT Fellow and TED Fellow. Mathematician with a background in applied mathematics, statistics, signal processing and computational engineering.
3. K. VijayRaghavan - Director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences. He is the recipient of the Infosys Prize in the life sciences (2009) and was conferred the honour of the Padma Shri in 2013.
That’s a wrap of a microscopic view of what happens during ENGINEER.
Be it the thrill of the contests that test your skills or the buzz of competition with some of the smartest minds in the country, or the ecstasy that fills as you marvel at the pure genius of the technology used at technites, or the delight of having the opportunity to work hands on with masters of their fields and learn a ton in workshops, or the adventure of being in presence of great minds and hearing them share their insightful wisdom at techspeak, ENGINEER 2013 is the place to be.
No matter who you who are, no matter where you come from, here, it’s all about one thing.
THINK. CREATE. ENGINEER.
