Calcutta, an old colonial city in India, a part of its colonial past is to be seen in its heritage cemeteries. Here lie the famous among the ordinary; traders, professionals, judges, sailors, and soldiers, amidst many women, nearly all of whom died young, often during childbirth; and many children. Looking at the tomb inscriptions brings the past alive as no book really can. This walk is through two cemeteries in Kolkata, the South Park Street Cemetery, and the Lower Circular Road Cemetery. The former is a heritage cemetery, while the latter is still in use which also contains many heritage graves.
This guided tour is for free.
