“Selecting the right implant system”
-A critical look at the implant abutment connection
An implant is a mechanical system designed to transmit occlusal forces from a prosthesis through an abutment and implant to the surrounding bone. If you look at it, the implant abutment connection is the point of contact between the surgical and the prosthetic phase in implant dentistry. It is very necessary to closely look at this important interface and be in a position to decipher facts from fiction, which will help to determine which implant system will best meet the needs of the patient. Choosing an implant system is no easy task. The purpose of this presentation is to make you aware that it is important for you to consider the modality of the implant abutment connection when choosing an implant system. Along with an overview of the various implant abutment connections, the numerous advantages of the morse taper connection will be presented.

• Nanda Dental Care Set up in 1977 by Dr Prem Nanda
• Also practices in Dubai, at the Medcare hospital, Jumera.
• Undergone advanced training in Oral implantology at various centres in Holland, Germany and Switzerland.
• He has an experience of 18 years in Implantology.
• Received the Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologist in 2003.
• He is the first clinician in India to use the BOI Implants (Basal Osseointegrated Implants).
